About Swan Yogi
Samantha Swanborough - training & journey
Sammy came to yoga late in life. She practiced before having children but due to back problems with scoliosis she knew she lacked the discipline to go to classes and so decided to train to teach instead
The yoga has greatly improved the shape of her back and it has also helped to lower her high blood pressure. Sammy has spent the last 25 years teaching drama and running theatre schools. She is particularly interested in yoga for young people for maintaining the important union between healthy body and mind
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
Sammy is a trained actor and qualified school teacher (P.G.C.E.) and has taught Drama and run theatre schools since 1996. She is also a qualified to practice massage and aromatherapy, Indian Head massage and Reflexology. She is also a qualified YMCA Exercise to Music teacher
She trained with Yoga & Ayurvedic centre 500hr Hatha. During a year of lockdown, Sammy used the time to undertake further professional development and trained in Chair & Restorative yoga together with Ayurvedic studies with the Yoga & Ayurvedic Centre
She also undertook Trapeze Yoga training with Yoga Teacher College. Additionally, Sammy also trained to teach children and young people with Karma Kids. She has a vested interest in delivering both teen and children mental health wellbeing and always takes a holistic approach with her teaching
Sammy is a member of Yoga Alliance and is a Continual Professional Development addict who believes you never stop learning. As a trained actor she has a firm interest in advanced studies of breath/Pranayama and is very keen on new styles of yoga such as Animal Flow, (ground based fluid movement) Feet Up and MovNat (natural movement work) which she practices in her own time
All classes are currently on line via Zoom, students are sent copies of the lesson to revisit at their own leisure. Sammy plans progressively and safely, working on the same lesson plan for two weeks, enabling students to accomplish and achieve before moving on. Lessons are planned in 6 week blocks and cover different themes and topics with fresh learning objectives
This maybe gravity yoga focussing on deep stretches to improve flexibility, Dosha study, Ayurvedic ancient India study into personality and physicality type, or chakras of the body and how yoga poses can aid better functionality
Sammy believes that lessons should be interesting and educational but also developing a difference to the body and mind. Sammy aims for the lesson to be completely holistic both in content and values, aiming for the whole body to be included in each lesson and ensuring Patanjali's Ashtanga Eight Limbs are addressed
It is Sammy's ethos that the most important value is that the student is the centre of focus and that teaching is a priviledge and that there is no ego in the class: Ahimsa (non-violence) & Asteya (non-stealing)
Sammy has great plans for the future after her first successful retreat abroad to Cyprus in April 2023
Sammy offers informative, very well rounded and insightful practice highlighting the anatomy & philosophy without overwhelming

Swan Yogi Hatha sessions are very relaxing and I always feel so well afterwards. I like that she fully prepares specific lessons to focus on different areas of the body which keep the sessions relevant. I do have back issues and Sammy provides options for each posture depending on ability. Highly recommend
